During a visit to Thursley Common N.N.R. last week I came across this fairly confiding immature male Four Spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata) well away from any water on the edge of a wood next to the heath.
Later on around the acidic pools, their typical habitat, I watched several males aggressively chasing one another in territorial flight and managed to capture one taking a very brief rest.
I saw several other species of Damselfly so I will definitely be revisiting in the near future. FAB.
I love that first image. What detail. That last one I what capture dead eye dick as you captured him straight in. Carol
ReplyDeleteHi Frank, how wonderful it was to hear from you. I have wondered what you have been up to from time to time as I make my blogging stops. I am so far behind on absolutely everything, and yet it is still such a pleasure to have these blogs to share life near and far. Your dragons are beautiful. I have not seen any here yet this season, but I imagine they are about, just not here~
ReplyDeleteWhat a chaser, it is beautiful Frank.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see you blogging Frank..I worry when people kind of disappear and after 11 years of blogging it hasn't always been good news and all is well. But I am happy in this case that you are well and out getting these wonderful photos. I saw my first damsel today but it was back along the pond edge and trying to get in closer scared it off, but it was a lovely dark blue and probably one I see every year here..Michelle
ReplyDeleteDragonflies are gorgeous critters. I love the first photo.
ReplyDeleteYour images are just fabulous! I love the details that you captured in each shot.
