Banded Demoiselle.

As promised here are some shots of a few of the hundred or so male Banded Demoiselles (Calopteryx splendens) that I saw during a wander along the Wey Navigation towpath last month. [The first image was taken using my Cannon Powershot and the remainder with the 450D and 70-300mm lens ... all handheld].

The weather forecast suggests lots of rain tomorrow so I may have to stay in and sort through all of the recent images for future posts.  FAB.

  4. A great set of images Frank. Yes you have to stay home sometimes as the photos soon mount up if you don't sort them out. The joys of digital photography.

  5. HI Frank I have never seen this dragonfly and these photographs of your are fantastic. Wonderful close up work. Can you explain something to me, The last shot looks blue while the other are blue/green. Is it the same insect? Is it just different light on it?

    1. Margaret. It is the same species .. just the effect of bright sunlight and the background of the water.

    1. Thank you Carol. These dainty male Demoiselles were so flighty and often moving just as I focused in so patience was definitely the order of the day.
